Managing Product Creep
As the product catalog grows, we begin confronting one of the biggest challenges facing any startup: learning when to stop adding ideas.
One challenge keeps appearing in our discussions.
Every time we finish developing one concept, three more ideas emerge.
On paper, that sounds like a good problem.
In reality, it creates risk.
The formulation library already contains products spanning numerous personal-care categories. Bar soap, shampoo, beard oil, beard balm, deodorant, body lotion, body mist, oral-care products, and additional concepts all compete for attention.
The temptation is to launch everything.
The smarter approach is probably the opposite.
The more we discuss the business, the more we realize that focus may be our greatest competitive advantage.
A smaller launch can still communicate the Men’s Biomes concept.
What matters most is whether customers understand the idea, connect with the collections, and want more.
Growth can come later.
Right now, discipline matters more than expansion.
